Sotheby’s sold several pieces this spring at the estate of Swiss collectors Rolf and Margit Weinberg in New York. In a statement, the House said they spanned “a masterpiece from the late 19th century and are groundbreaking examples of early abstraction and expressionism.”

Sotheby’s said the “visionary” Weinbergs “has assembled one of Europe’s most outstanding collections over the past 50 years.” The house described Cézanne’s paintings as “psychologically accused” and said his “mysterious portrait of his wife – with a total of 29 pictures, most importantly in the collection of large museums – is considered one of the most important and most important paintings of the works.”

Schiele’s oil on the canvas on the panel, titled Gewitterberg (Kapelle Auf Dem Kreuzberg Bei Krumau) (1910) and Kandinsky’s anfang (start) (1925) – Oil on board – is expected to receive between $2 million and $3 million.
