Minerals and chemistry, creams and oils, the ideal SPF filter – There are many factors to consider when buying the best sunscreen. But, of all the questions asked, the latest discourse revolves around people of color or unstained, which one is better?
FashionFavorite tinted sunscreen
“I wouldn’t say that tinted sunscreens are better than traditional sunscreens overall (as a dermatologist, having patients regularly use any sunscreen is a win!), but I’m going to say that tinted sunscreens are better than other types of sunscreens.” FashionDermatologist Dr. Elyse Love agrees. “From the SPF filter perspective, tinted sunscreens are similar to their non-colored counterparts, but they contain added pigments (usually composed of iron oxide and pigmented titanium dioxide) in the formula,” she said. “This is especially important for darker skin tones. Visible light causes and causes pigmentation to darker skin tones.”
Basically, as nurse practitioner Catie Boucher explains, iron oxides with shadows act as physical barriers to the skin to reflect and scatter visible light. “More specifically, iron oxide also shields another component of visible light, called blue light,” she said. “We know that blue light can stimulate pigmented cells called melanocytes, which can lead to pigmentation disorders, such as melanin. When it comes to treating and preventing pigmented diseases, it requires a village. Choosing a colored sunscreen provides another layer of protection.” Therefore, anyone with darker skin tones or pigmentation is prone to occur (whether it is melanin, post-scars or sun spots, should consider working in a colored sunscreen. And, there is a lot of evidence to support it.
Naturally, narrow “universal” shadows pose the challenge of finding the right shadow. Industry restrictions and outdated norms finally got rid of them. In recent years, considering a wider background and shade, thoughtful re-summarization of the best tinted sunscreens has been aligned with a wider range of products. MERIT’s latest uniform has 15 shades that reflect the shade of its minimalist skin tone. For the beauty of Joseon’s colored essence, this is a similar story that offers 12 shades in an impressive range. Even La Roche-Posay has recently launched three new shades to its classic Anthelios colored Sunscreen SPF 40+ – now offering medium, neutral and deep media, as well as separate universal shades. For those who are more interested in light, the Innbeauty Project and Kosas option can illuminate and bronze skin tones and add radiant glitter to replace traditional skin tones.
